Advertising Expenditures Dropped 12.3% In 2009, But Digital Grew 7.3%
Total advertising expenditures fell 12.3% last year to $125.3 billion as compared to 2008, according to data released today by Kantar Media. However, Q4 2009 ad spending was off 6% against the year ago period, with nearly all media improving upon their January-September performance.

We all know the ol’ Apple is special. As a creative at heart, this story put a little smile on my face.
Artist Jan Vormann took a team of volunteers across Brooklyn and Manhattan as part of the VOLTA artshow to fill in the blanks with the building blocks of our childhood.

What a great tool! I may be late to the game on this one, but a friend just sent me a website PDF from pdfmyurl.com. Who hasn’t sent someone to a website to “check it out” and it has changed, or has been taken down? PDFmyURL allows for you to convert, right on the spot, websites to PDFs. A very convenient way of sharing sites.

Logorama, by H5, is definitely the best animated film this year, let’s just agree on that. I came across an article this morning touting a video post on Gizmodo (by Mark WIlson). I like many others just skimmed by it…until I looked a little closer. This Oscar nominated, animated short film was made incorporating 2500 logos of various brands. Being intimately familiar with the branding world, I was immediately drawn to this. I watched it…AND watched it again. (And after I finish this post, I will watch one more time….b/c it’s that good.)
I was so impressed by the fluidity of the animation, and the clever adaptation of the various logos. The contextual incorporation of these marks at various points throughout the story line are as poignant as a writer’s perfectly placed punctuation. I completely agree with Mark,
“By the end, you are not bothered by the fun fast food logos or references to AOL or Microsoft. You’re frightened by the logos you could identify without ever having given the company any thought in your day to day life. You’re frightened by the familiarity of all the strangeness.”
Please watch this…..twice, at least. You’ll thank me. (FYI, there is some slightly “NSFW” language, I wouldn’t recommend watching at work if your office isn’t cool with that.) So, watch it here, and enjoy!

Saw this for the first time last night on NBC Nightly News, and was impressed. This is a fantastic example of true innovation…I can’t wait to dip some of my McNuggets in one of these bad boys!

(PhysOrg.com) — Spray-on liquid glass is transparent, non-toxic, and can protect virtually any surface against almost any damage from hazards such as water, UV radiation, dirt, heat, and bacterial infections. The coating is also flexible and breathable, which makes it suitable for use on an enormous array of products.

I kinda want to hurt myself on purpose…just so I can use it!
