Artist Uses LEGO Blocks to Rebuild NYC |... →
We all know the ol’ Apple is special. As a creative at heart, this story put a little smile on my face. Artist Jan Vormann took a team of volunteers across Brooklyn and Manhattan as part of the VOLTA artshow to fill in the blanks with the building blocks of our childhood.

PDFmyURL.com - Convert and save pdf from any... →
What a great tool! I may be late to the game on this one, but a friend just sent me a website PDF from pdfmyurl.com. Who hasn’t sent someone to a website to “check it out” and it has changed, or has been taken down? PDFmyURL allows for you to convert, right on the spot, websites to PDFs. A very convenient way of sharing sites.

And the Oscar goes to...LOGORAMA by H5 →
Logorama, by H5, is definitely the best animated film this year, let’s just agree on that. I came across an article this morning touting a video post on Gizmodo (by Mark WIlson). I like many others just skimmed by it…until I looked a little closer. This Oscar nominated, animated short film was made incorporating 2500 logos of various brands. Being intimately familiar with the...

Obama vs. iPad?
Yesterday was an interesting day…after a full day at the office, and an evening of civic duties, I sat down to tired and exhausted prepared to unwind. I had politely asked my TiVo record the State of the Union, quietly brewed a steaming hot cup of tea and cozied up to my opened laptop with Uncle Steve’s own State of His Union. There at that point I was struck with conundrum of what to...

P&G to Open Silicon Valley Office - via Ad Age →
P&G is setting up shop in Silicon Valley to “help develop social-networking systems and digital-marketing capabilities with the website” according to AdAge.com. Why is this significant? This is the arguably the world’s largest advertiser getting even cosier with the worlds largest social-networking site, thus giving even more momentum to the argument for shifting marketing...

Ford's "Almost" New Logo...in 1966 - Via Jalopnik →
I like many others, love Paul Rand…and by love him I mean in that crazy-old-grandpa-that-was-a-little-scary kinda way. But he seriously had a way with the pen…and given all the changes recently in the automotive industry, I think it is about time Ford stepped up, grew a pair and embraced their well deserved future. [Rand] almost singlehandedly convinced business that design was an...

Beautiful Paperart of Yulia Brodskaya - via... →
Rarely am I stunned to the level I was when I came across Yulia Brodskaya’s work. Perhaps it’s because of my love/hate relationship with paper in design school? Maybe it’s because I now spend Saturday afternoons with my kids cutting colored construction paper into pieces and using a glue stick to make collages? Or maybe it’s just that she’s that impressive… ...

The future of marketing is in on Madison Ave., right? Maybe not… If the folks here in Cincinnati have their way, you may be visiting the Queen City for that next big campaign. With the likes of P&G, Krogers, Scripps & others, this initiative headed up by Rich Kiley has the firepower to make a real run at becoming the Silicon Valley of Consumer Marketing. A Bonanza of Opportunities 2010, two thousand and ten, or twenty ten (whatever you want to call it) brings with it a tremendous amount of anticipation. What will this year bring? As we look to find the next “big idea” we have to constantly be probing, digging, and trying to forecast where we THINK consumers, the economy, and everything else will be headed.  I try to stay up on...

J Mays: What I've Learned (via Esquire) →
“They’re not writing songs about cars anymore.” I came across a great interview at Esquire.com, with Ford’s chief designer J Mays. He has some great quotes here, and this last one is my favorite. So true… There are others that are pretty good too, so I decided to post the rest of it in it’s entirety for your reading pleasure: Anybody can make a toaster...

Bacon Pop via Uncrate →
Do you love bacon? I mean L.O.V.E. it? Those of you that know me, know that I love bacon. I love it in that make-the-Swine-Flu-jealous kind of way. I came across Bacon Pop on my daily digest of whatever digital. Getting ready for movie night at home? Colorless - by Harc Lee →
I like pretty things. Not in that “Diamonds are a girls best friend” way, but I do appreciate aesthetically appealing solutions. As I am sure you have read before, I am a big fan of design solutions that have meaning or create an impact that matters. Harc Lee’s concept “Colorless Coke Can” has given us a great example of this. If Coca-Cola was ever to produce such a...

Visualization of Information…The Next News Frontier? “I want it all, and I want now!” No, no, I am not a huge Queen fan (although I do think Freddie Mercury was one of the greatest vocalists of all time, but I digress…) What I am referring to is how today’s media consumers want to digest the news. They demand more, faster, but with more insight and depth. It’s...

California City, CA - Re-posting a story by Ben Wojdyla for Jalopnik. “You’ve probably never heard of California City, CA, but it’s the third largest city in California. There is no doubt that the consumer is in control in today’s marketplace. Retailers and brands are no longer telling the consumer what they “should” want.
